Highway to Hell Creek 2006
Travel to Montana with Burpee Museum for the adventure of a lifetime! This is your opportunity to join the team that discovered and excavated Burpee's T. rex Jane! Whether you're a seasoned paleontologist or just curious about the past, this trip will be an experience to remember.
What will we do?
You'll spend five days in the Hell Creek formation of southeastern Montana prospecting for fossils and discovering specimens to add to the Museum's collection. You'll learn the fundamentals of dinosaur field work including prospecting, excavation, plastering, and working at micro-vertebrate locations. At night we'll return to Camp Needmore - a renovated Civilian Conservation Corps camp near Custer National Forest. If you join us for the family session (August 7 - 13) you'll also enjoy a trip to the Carter County Fair!
What will we find?
Past Hell Creek expeditions have uncovered everything from tiny microfossils to entire dinosaurs! A recent Burpee group discovered three promising sites containing Edmontosaurus and Triceratops remains. These sites, along with the Jane site, are some of the areas we plan to investigate this year.
Let's go!
There are three sessions to choose from:
May 28 - June 3 (open to ages 15+)
July 31 - August 6 (open to ages 15+)
August 7 - 13 (Family Session, ages 13+)
